<%image(20051006-divine hours.jpg|40|60|divine hours)%> After patiently waiting by the mail box for a week, the Divine Hours for Autumn and Winter finally arrived. My prayer life has benefitted by this simple discipline of praying 4 times a day. The inclusion of various scriptures, prayers, and hymns all serve to continuously point me toward Christ during the day. I find that my problem for so long has been that I move so fast that God is lost in the process. But, as the editor of the volume says, I have the priviledge of stopping to rest with God four times a day to pray, and that is like the buzzer going off for half time in a tiring game.
The prayer for this week is especially wonderful:
The Prayer Appointed for the Week
Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon your church the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.†
