Supporting Shevet Achim

September 24, 08 by ed

I’ve become involved in supporting a group known as Shevet Achim, a Christian organization dedicated to bringing reconciliation to the Middle East and sharing the love and peace of the Gospel through their work of bringing Arab children to Israeli hospitals for life-saving surgery. It is a powerful testimony for the Gospel and a wonderful way to bring reconciliation to the Middle East.

With funding drying up, times are tight. There are many children in need of support for their surgeries, be they one-time or on-going gifts. Even if you aren’t in a place to help out financially, please take a moment to read the following note from the director and join us in praying for their ministry.

Tonight will mark the end of our summer campaign to bring 20 children to Israel for heart surgery—and seven of these children are still not fully sponsored!

With this group of children we are also entering a new season in our relationship with the doctors at the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon.  The doctors’ own fundraising has slowed, and as a result they’ve just asked us, their Christian friends, to double the amount we’re contributing for Iraqi children.  They’ve also asked us to resume funding of children from Gaza and the West Bank, who have been covered by an EU grant for the past couple of years.
Naturally speaking, this is a frightening development.  Our budget will have to more than double overnight.
But through eyes of faith, it is an opportunity—to have a deeper, broader impact as we live out parables of grace in Israel and the Middle East.  If the flow of financial resources increases, our children won’t have to wait so long to have timely treatment, we can open up the doors of other medical centers in Israel, and we’ll be interacting with a much wider cross-section of Israelis.

Would you join us in rising to the challenge by helping us sponsor these seven remaining children yet tonight, in the last twilight hours of the summer?  Funds can be designated to any of these children, securely and immediately, at http://shevet.org .

God bless you,
Jonathan for Shevet Achim
