Post Partisan Politics and Theology
I just heard an interview this morning where New Yorker writer George Packer said, “The key to post partisan politics is rooted in toning down rhetoric.” In other words, there is room for disagreement on policies, but it is partisan rhetoric that must go.
I find that a helpful distinction in both politics and religion. It’s when our rhetoric becomes inflammatory and combative that we miss out on the real opportunity to understand another perspective and to respond thoughtfully, if not critically.
